Exploring the connection between the shaman and the drum
My exploration of rhythmic sound began at 5 years. There is such magic in witnessing the world from such an untouched innocence. This intuitive experience guided me to trust from such a depth that when I visited South Africa and witnessed the Zulus, their presence just amplified my calling. When I received my first drum from South Africa, it taught me to talk, listen and learn, there was no need for a physical teacher for the the spirit of the drum was all knowing.
After many years of practising exploring every millimetre and micrometer of the skin, my seeing and sensing of this world of skin on skin was precisely woven as one. Attending many shamanic workshops and events I discovered how different my approach was to the drum and wanted to share what I had received from the spirit of the drum myself. This was beginning for creating the shamans drum. It is a training like no other as it contains all the guidance I received as a child, which I have refined over 40 years of practice. This devotional practice has given me a reputation of being an adept in this field of expertise. Of course I value this feedback, but ultimately I always tell my students, the drum is the teacher, all you need to do is listen.
